Graduate Student Poster Prize

The Graduate Student Poster Prizes are awarded annually at the Graduate Research Colloquium. The first prize poster winner will receive $400 and the runner-up will receive $100. These prizes, sponsored by the UTM Library, are intended to recognize the posters that are most effective at visually and descriptively communicating their research in poster format. The posters will be judged on the content as well as the visual presentation of their research.

Student Eligibility

Any currently enrolled graduate student in any professional graduate program or research-stream graduate program at UTM. Any graduate student who is not based at the University of Toronto Mississauga, but whose supervisor has a continuing appointment at the University of Toronto Mississauga.

Prize Criteria

The content of the posters will be judged on how effectively the poster:

  • Introduces and explains the research question
  • Outlines the approach and procedures used in the study
  • Communicates the findings and why are they unique or important
  • Conveys the content, i.e. are the ideas presented in a clear and logical manner?

The posters will also be judged on their visual presentation. The areas that will be assessed are:

  • Visual Organization, i.e. both the images chosen and the organization of the material, both visual and text
  • Overall presentation of the poster – this will include if it is visually attractive, as well as if it is easy to read, i.e. font size and type.
Judges

The graduate student posters will be judged by a committee consisting of one faculty member, one librarian, and one post-doctoral student.
